Holy Week & Easter
Holy Week is the hinge point between the season of Lent and the season of Easter. During Holy Week we remember the final days in the life of Jesus and we remember his death. We celebrate special liturgies throughout Holy Week: Palm Sunday (10:45 AM), Maundy Thursday (6PM) , Good Friday (7PM), and the Easter Vigil (8PM). On Easter Day (at 10:45AM) and throughout the Easter Season we celebrate Jesus' resurrection into new life. The season of Easter lasts for fifty days, and culminates in the feast of Pentecost.
Below are resources to help you observe Holy Week and Easter.

Palm Sunday
On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus' entry into Jerusalem before he was crucified.
At St. Gregory's we celebrate a single festive liturgy and procession on Palm Sunday at 10:45 AM. Before the service, everyone is invited to join us for brunch from 8:30-10:00AM, then dancers gather for a short rehearsal around 9:45, and children gather for a short story about Holy Week around 10:15. ALL children are welcome and encouraged to join us for the entire service (nursery care, if desired, is available for ages 0-3.)
In the videos below you can catch a glimpse of our Palm Sunday liturgies, learn some simple movements to incorporate into the Palm Sunday procession, and experience prayers for Palm Sunday with prayer beads, scripture, and song.

Maundy Thursday
On Maundy Thursday we remember that, on the night before he died, Jesus shared Last Supper with his followers and washed their feet. We gather for a liturgy and simple meal 6PM. We share stories from scripture and from our own lives, we eat together, we share communion, and we wash each other's feet. Children participate fully in the meal and service with the community. (No nursery care provided.)

Good Friday
On Good Friday we remember Jesus' crucifixion and death. We gather for a solemn liturgy at 7PM. The length and solemnity of this service may be challenging for young children. (We do not normally provide nursery care for this service. If you would like to request nursery care, please contact Sylvia as soon as possible and we will try to make arrangements.)

Easter Vigil & Easter Day
On Holy Saturday we wait for the Resurrection. We gather for the Easter Vigil at 8PM. The Vigil is our biggest liturgy of the year. Our celebration culminates with a series of joyous songs and circle dances. Learn the dances here. (Nursery care is available for young children who may need to take a nap during the liturgy. Please bring a pillow and blankie.)
We gather for a small Easter Day service at 10:45 AM to continue celebrating the Resurrection with baptisms, followed by a picnic lunch. All children participate in the entire liturgy with the community (No nursery care.)

Sing and stomp along with these musical settings of the Easter Troparion (sheet music here): Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!
We make church together!
At St. Gregory's we make church together! From planning, to set up, to leadership, to clean up and evaluation, our liturgies are the work of many hands. You can see us at work, creating Holy Week liturgies together, below.
