Education for Ministry is a four-year program created by School of Theology at the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee. The goal of the program is to help people develop a firm foundation in their own personal theology and spiritual practice that supports them in daily living their faith. We have an EFM group that meets weekly at St. Gregory's.
The first year focuses on reading the Hebrew Scriptures, the second year on the Christian Testament, and the last two years on the development of Christian practice and theology up to the present. We also learn a method for examination of scripture and our on personal theology call "theological reflection." This allows the group to support each other in exploring personal beliefs in the context of their culture and personal history.
There is great flexibility within the program: participants can take breaks between the four years, or repeat years.
The EFM group meets once a week and follows the school year calendar, meeting from September to June. It is not critical that a participant attend every session—it is a long period and people will have events that occasionally prevent attendance. However, the group works best when the majority of members show up for the sessions.
The cost per year is $350.00. (for materials, program support and a stipend for those who
choose to facilitate the group)
We currently have five members planning to attend this fall. Four or five more people will
make for a more robust group.
If you are interested, contact Kelsey Menehan at 202-368-3869 or Peggy Graybill 206-446-2095.
